Ka Research Limited conducted the “Image of Turkey” survey for TESEV. The results were announced to the general public in a press conference held by TESEV on the 20th of November. The results were well-received by the press and the public and attracted a lot of attention and interest. The president of Ka, Bulent Kilincarslan, took part in a talk-show on CNN Türk, presented by Taha Akyol, in which results of the survey were discussed in detail.
“Image of Turkey” was a regional public opinion survey in seven (Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Syria, and Iraq) countries in the Middle East and Northern Africa (MENA) among Arab males and females above age of 18 with a total sample size of 2,006 individuals.
According to the results, 79 percent of the respondents agree that Turkey should play a mediatory role in resolving the Israeli Palestinian conflict and another 77 percent support a bigger role for Turkey in the Arab World. The notion of Turkey being a model for the Arab World is supported by the respondents; well above 50 percent in each survey country agree that Turkey can be a model for Arab countries. Yet, many respondents expressed that Turkey is a secular county. Therefore, it is considered somewhat different from the Arab countries. Overall respondents were also supportive about Turkey’s bid for the EU. Overall, Turkey’s image in the Middle Eastern and North African countries was positive.
