KA Research Limited on the “Noor Phenomenon”

Ka Research Limited conducted an opinion poll survey in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to study the phenomenon of Noor (Gümüş in the original Turkish).The TV series captivated countless people from 11 Arab countries on a daily basis throughout the summer of 2008. In order to make better sense the phenomenon, KA Research Limited conducted a nationwide opinion poll survey in among Saudi females aged 15+ with a sample size of 207 across 13 provinces of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The fieldwork took place between September 18-20, 2008 by KA Research Limited’s Borderless CATI Center in Istanbul, Turkey by native female Arabic interviewers and supervisors. KA Research Limited was responsible for data collection and analysis of the survey results. The project was sponsored by KA Research Limited and Mr. Bulent Kilincarslan, the President of Ka Research Limited, within the scope of the organization’s Human Research Program.

According to the results of the survey, 56% of the women interviewed felt their views regarding Turkey had been altered and, 56% of the women felt that Turkey is geographical, cultural and religious closeness to Arab society increased their interest in the series. 63% agreed that Arab women’s interest in the serial Noor is a sign that they are dissatisfied and would like more freedom and rights. 26% of the women agreed that the series changed their sentiments towards male-female relationships.
